There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:3.
So what is a mature Christian? Is it someone that walks around all day with a very long face? No it is not. Is it someone who giggles and plays and acts like a child all the time? No it is not.
A mature Christian is one who understands the true gospel and has been a believer for a long time and has grown in God’s word. He or she is one who knows when to be funny and when to be serious. When someone is trying to get across to the world anything, even the unsaved knows that it is time to be serious.
Now clowning around and joking has its place, but then there are times to get very serious about what you are doing. It is ok to joke and be funny and have a good laugh we all need that. But in its proper time and place. A Mature Christian knows when it is time to be funny and time to be serious.
When I was very young living in Colorado my favorite Uncle came to me one day and told me straight to my face I needed to grow up. At first I was very angry how dare he tell me this. But after thinking about it even though I doubt he was saved, I knew he was right. So I grew up, and wow what a difference that made with our relationship.
Why is it the youth now days seem to think they have the answer to everything? Why do they not as the bible says, respect their elders? I have been half way around the world, lived in more places then some, and experienced more then some. I have been abused and yes I suffered. I did not enjoy my walk at all in this cruel and crummy world. Yet I always have the joy of the Lord in my heart.
I was raised to respect my elders, to look up to them, to respect those in authority over me. There were times I absolutely did not agree but I still showed respect because they were a whole lot older than me or were in charge over me.
For one to say they do not understand why people want to go home shows me either they are immature in their walk with Jesus, or not really saved to start with. In this case I say immaturity is the reason and someone who is still on milk may still think that way.
The bible never promised anyone they would enjoy their Christian walk. Tell that to the woman that is pregnant and married to a disabled man, and she has another child. Yet because she refuses to recant her belief in Jesus they are planning on hanging her. I am sure she is not enjoying her Christian walk. But the joy of the Lord is her strength as it is mine.
It is better to point out to someone you love where a change may need to be done then to lie and pretend everything is ok. Sometimes it may mean losing that friend but if in the end it helps that person then that is very good.
Just like my Uncle told me to grow up. Best thing that was ever said to me at the time. Sadly when he died I do not think he went to heaven. But what he told me was right.
So you can be angry and lash out at someone who in love points something out that needs to be changed. If you are a believer it just shows your maturity level needs to change.
Yes I want to go home. I want to be with Jesus. Every true believer should want this or there is really something wrong with their walk. Every New Testament follower of Jesus except for the Apostle John and even he was exiled, died a violent death for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said to take up your cross and follow him daily. Taking up your cross is not a pleasant walk in the park.
I know I try to be funny at times and that is ok. But when it is time to be serious I do not act childish or try to joke around. I get very serious.
When I say something it is not to hurt people but to help. At least I try. I am sixty years old and experienced good and bad more than many and yet the youth look at me like I am just a stupid old man that knows nothing.
Someday soon Jesus is coming back and all this strife will be over. I will be so glad and yearn for his return. I am not ashamed of that, every true believer in their heart should yearn for His return.
Finally if you want to enjoy suffering, sickness be my guest I want to be with Jesus. In this country most are sheltered and have no clue what suffering is really about.
Being sick is not true suffering for Christ. But ask that lady if she wants to be hanged? She will no doubt say no. But she would rather be hanged then to denounce her Lord. No enjoying a Christian walk, rather enjoying the Joy of the Lord in her heart.
